For those excited about Theta’s Mainnet 3.0 launch, a few more months of waiting will be necessary. This is because Theta Labs made a decision to postpone this release until June 2021 in order to conduct more rigorous tests and code reviews. Theta’s Mainnet 3.0 has garnered much excitement as a streaming app for esports that is crypto-powered.

What, exactly, does the Theta Mainnet 3.0 development team still need to work on? Besides the aforementioned code review, additional concerns include an NFT (non-fungible token) marketplace as well as making certain that the app’s network will still function properly on a larger scale or over 100,000 Elite Edge Nodes.

Instead of April 21, followers of Theta can instead look forward to a June 30, 2021, launch for the streaming app. This delay is intended to ensure a much more successful and seamless launch for Mainnet 3.0.

Building out the highly anticipated NFT marketplace is something that Theta’s network is focusing on heavily at the moment. Elite Edge Nodes will be an important part of Mainnet 3.0’s NFT marketplace. Their purpose is the tokenization of internet bandwidth in order to create effective, decentralized storage, which will then be utilized by the NFTs. Resulting cross-chain bridges will then be established between the Ethereum network and the Mainnet 3.0 network.

Those who closely followed last year’s launch of Mainnet 2.0 will likely remember a very similar delay. For the purpose of more rigorous testing by the Theta team, Mainnet 2.0’s launch was ultimate postponed until May 27, 2020. The original schedule indicated that this would instead take place a bit earlier, in March.

The native THETA token, interestingly, has risen from $2.14 on January 1, 2021, to a value of more than six times that amount. It is currently sitting at a price of more than $13 and is outperforming several popular cryptocurrencies currently.
